About the role

Our client, a law firm, is looking for a Personal Injury Solicitor to join their team in York on a locum basis for 6 months. The role involves managing a caseload of personal injury claims, supporting the team’s work and keeping files moving efficiently.

You will take conduct of matters from instruction through to conclusion, advising clients, building cases and working towards fair outcomes. The position suits a solicitor who is comfortable running their own files with minimal supervision and who can settle into a team quickly.

The successful candidate will bring sound technical knowledge, good judgement and a client-focused approach. This is a practical, hands-on assignment where your experience will be put to work from the outset.

Main responsibilities

• Manage a caseload of personal injury claims from initial instruction through to settlement or trial
• Advise clients on liability, causation, quantum and prospects of success
• Investigate claims, gather evidence and instruct medical and other experts
• Draft and issue pleadings, Letters of Claim, Part 36 offers and other correspondence
• Negotiate settlements and attend court hearings or mediations where required
• Maintain accurate file notes, deadlines and case records in line with firm procedures
• Keep clients informed and handle queries with clarity and care
• Comply with regulatory, compliance and file management requirements

Requirements

• Qualified solicitor in England and Wales with a current practising certificate
• Relevant experience handling personal injury claims
• Sound knowledge of the Civil Procedure Rules and personal injury procedure, including the relevant pre-action protocols
• Experience managing a caseload independently and working to deadlines
• Strong negotiation, drafting and client communication skills
• The ability to work from York
