Neighbourhood Housing Officer

Vivid Resourcing

Location: Worthing
Contract: Interim

About the role

Our client is looking for a Neighbourhood Housing Officer to join their housing team on an interim basis, managing a patch of homes and helping to keep neighbourhoods safe, well maintained and settled for residents.

The successful candidate will be the main point of contact for tenants in their patch, handling tenancy management, estate inspections, neighbour disputes and anti-social behaviour cases. The role involves regular contact with residents, visits to homes and estates, and close working with repairs, support and community teams to resolve issues and prevent them from escalating.

This is a position for a housing professional who combines sound knowledge of tenancy management with a fair, practical and approachable style. It suits someone who is confident working independently, managing a varied caseload and having difficult conversations when needed, while keeping the resident experience at the centre of their work.

Main responsibilities
  • Manage a patch of properties and act as the main point of contact for residents
  • Carry out tenancy management duties, including new tenancy visits, tenancy audits, succession, assignment and mutual exchange requests
  • Investigate and resolve reports of anti-social behaviour, neighbour disputes and tenancy breaches
  • Take appropriate enforcement action in line with policy, including warnings, notices and preparing cases for legal action
  • Carry out regular estate inspections and follow up issues relating to communal areas, grounds and the local environment
  • Work with the repairs team to ensure issues reported by residents are resolved promptly
  • Support residents facing financial difficulty, including rent arrears, by referring to income and money advice services where appropriate
  • Identify vulnerable residents and refer them to support and safeguarding services
  • Liaise with the police, local authority, support agencies and other partners to resolve complex cases
  • Keep accurate case records and meet performance and compliance requirements
Requirements

Essential

  • Experience in a neighbourhood housing, tenancy management or similar frontline housing role
  • Working knowledge of tenancy law and housing management practice
  • Experience managing a caseload, including anti-social behaviour and neighbour dispute cases
  • Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to manage a varied workload and work independently
  • Competence with housing management systems and Microsoft Office
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable

  • Previous experience within a housing association or local authority
  • A relevant housing qualification, such as CIH, or progress towards one
  • Experience preparing cases for court or tribunal
  • Knowledge of safeguarding and working with vulnerable residents
  • Experience working with rent arrears and income management
