About the role
Our client is looking for a Mechanical Lead to act as the mechanical package manager for a site, on a contract basis until April. The role is responsible for the technical delivery of the mechanical scope, with a particular focus on process and piping systems.
You will plan the mechanical work well ahead of the programme, identifying technical risks early and putting solutions in place before they affect progress on site. The position suits an experienced mechanical professional who is comfortable coordinating contractors and disciplines, keeping a close view of what is coming next and resolving issues quickly and practically.
The successful candidate will bring a strong track record in process industries and piping, sound technical judgement and a proactive approach to risk. Deep commercial expertise is not required, but you will need to be able to spot commercial and programme risks and help eliminate them early.
Main responsibilities
- Act as the mechanical package manager for the site, taking ownership of the technical delivery of the mechanical scope
- Plan mechanical activities well ahead of the programme, with a focus on look-ahead planning on the technical side
- Identify technical, interface and programme risks early, and drive actions to remove them
- Oversee piping and mechanical installation, making sure work meets design, quality and safety requirements
- Coordinate with contractors, suppliers and other disciplines to keep the mechanical package on track
- Review drawings, specifications, isometrics and technical submittals, and resolve technical queries
- Monitor progress against the programme and report on status, risks and issues to project management
- Support the transition from construction to testing and commissioning for the mechanical scope
- Make sure health, safety and quality standards are followed throughout the mechanical package
Requirements
Essential
- A strong, proven record in mechanical delivery within process industries
- Significant experience with process piping, including installation and technical oversight
- Experience acting as a mechanical lead or package manager on a project or site
- Strong look-ahead planning ability on the technical side
- The ability to identify risks early and take action to eliminate them
- Sufficient commercial awareness to spot and flag commercial and programme risks
- Experience coordinating contractors, suppliers and multiple disciplines
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Availability until April
Desirable
- Experience on data centre projects
- Experience in other process-driven industries, such as pharmaceutical or chemical
