About the role
Our client is looking for an experienced freelance Linux Engineer to take ownership of their Linux environment on short notice. The role is focused on keeping the existing infrastructure stable, secure and well maintained, and the successful candidate will be the go-to person for anything Linux-related within the IT team.
Day to day, you’ll be handling the hands-on administration of the server estate, from patching and updates through to troubleshooting incidents and keeping systems running smoothly. The organisation runs a fairly traditional IT setup, so someone who is comfortable working independently, picking up an existing environment quickly and bringing structure to it will fit in well.
The role is mostly on-site, which suits someone who prefers to be close to the systems and the team they support.
Main responsibilities
- Administer and maintain the Linux server environment
- Carry out patching, updates and general lifecycle management
- Monitor systems and resolve incidents and outages
- Troubleshoot performance, configuration and access issues
- Document the environment, configurations and operational processes
- Act as the main point of contact for Linux-related questions within IT
Requirements
Essential
- Solid experience as a Linux System Administrator (5-10 years)
- Strong working knowledge of enterprise Linux distributions such as RHEL or CentOS
- Experience with shell scripting (Bash) for day-to-day administration
- Comfortable taking over and stabilising an existing environment independently
- It’s a medior position (5-10 years experience is fine)
- Able to work mostly on-site in Amsterdam
