Contract: Contract

About the role

Our client, an engineering and technical services organisation, needs an Instrument Technician on a contract basis. You’ll install, calibrate, test, maintain and troubleshoot field instrumentation and control equipment, so systems run accurately, safely and reliably.

The work is hands-on. You’ll handle pressure, temperature, flow and level instruments, control valves and the associated wiring and loops, working from technical drawings, datasheets and loop diagrams. Alongside planned calibration and maintenance, you’ll diagnose faults and get equipment back into service quickly. You’ll work closely with electrical, mechanical and operations colleagues to keep the work coordinated and safe.

The role suits a technician who combines solid instrumentation knowledge with a careful, methodical approach and a strong focus on safety. You should be comfortable working independently on site and keeping clear records of the work done. Location, start date, duration and working pattern will be confirmed with candidates.

Main responsibilities
  • Install, connect and commission field instruments and control equipment
  • Calibrate and test instruments such as pressure, temperature, flow and level transmitters
  • Carry out loop checks and functional testing of instrument and control circuits
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control valves
  • Diagnose and resolve faults in instruments, wiring and control loops
  • Read and work from P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams and datasheets
  • Keep accurate calibration, test and maintenance records
  • Work safely, following permit-to-work and site safety procedures
  • Coordinate with electrical, mechanical and operations teams
Requirements

Essential

  • Experience as an Instrument Technician or in a similar instrumentation and control role
  • Hands-on experience with calibration, loop checking and fault finding
  • Able to read P&IDs, loop diagrams and wiring diagrams
  • Good knowledge of common field instruments and control valves
  • Strong safety awareness and experience working to site safety procedures
  • Methodical, accurate and able to work independently

Desirable

  • Relevant technical qualification in instrumentation, electrical or a related field
  • Experience with commissioning on industrial projects
  • Familiarity with PLC or DCS systems from a field instrumentation perspective
  • Experience with HART or other field communication protocols
  • Experience in process, energy or industrial plant environments
The offer
  • Contract role with an engineering and technical services organisation
  • Hands-on work across installation, calibration, maintenance and fault finding
  • Location, start date, duration and rate to be confirmed with candidates

This contract role suits an instrument technician who takes pride in accurate, safe and well-documented work. You’ll keep instrumentation and control systems running reliably and work alongside electrical and mechanical colleagues. If this matches your experience, apply below.
