Housing Options Officer
Location: Nottinghamshire, UK
Contract: 6 months
Working pattern: Hybrid, Office 1 day per week, WFH 4 days
About the role
We’re currently recruiting for a Housing Options Officer to join a local authority client in Nottinghamshire on a 6-month contract.
The role will focus on providing housing options advice and managing homelessness cases within a busy local authority environment. You will need strong practical experience in Housing Options and a solid working knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996.
Main responsibilities
- Manage homelessness and housing options cases from initial assessment through to resolution
- Provide clear and appropriate housing advice to applicants
- Assess housing and homelessness circumstances in line with relevant legislation and local authority procedures
- Apply Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 when assessing homelessness applications
- Determine housing duties and appropriate housing options based on individual circumstances
- Maintain accurate case records and ensure decisions are properly documented
- Work within statutory timescales and relevant local authority policies
- Liaise with applicants, landlords, housing providers and other relevant services
- Identify suitable housing solutions and make appropriate referrals where required
- Manage a busy caseload while maintaining a high standard of customer service
Requirements
- Strong Housing Options experience is essential
- Solid working knowledge of Part VII of the Housing Act 1996 is essential
- Previous experience managing homelessness cases
- Experience working within a local authority housing environment
- Good understanding of homelessness legislation and housing duties
- Strong case management and organisational skills
- Ability to manage a busy caseload effectively
- Strong communication and decision-making skills
