An exciting opportunity has arisen to join a newly established public sector organisation at a pivotal stage of its development and growth.
The organisation is currently building its core functions and is expected to grow significantly as it takes on additional responsibilities, funding and devolved powers. We are seeking an experienced finance professional to provide hands-on financial leadership during this important period.
The successful candidate will oversee an existing outsourced finance arrangement, ensuring robust financial management, reporting, governance and internal controls are in place. Over an initial 12–18 month assignment, they will also play a key role in shaping the organisation’s longer-term finance operating model, including the potential development of an in-house finance function.
We are looking for someone with strong local government finance experience, ideally with exposure to Combined Authorities and/or devolution, alongside a strong understanding of financial governance and controls. Experience of working with shared or outsourced finance services would be highly advantageous.
This is a hands-on role suited to someone who enjoys building processes, establishing financial discipline and creating effective systems from the ground up, while working confidently with senior officers and stakeholders.
Key experience:
- Strong local government finance background
- Experience of financial governance, controls and reporting
- Experience overseeing outsourced or shared finance services
- Ideally, experience within a Combined Authority or devolution environment
- Ability to establish and improve financial processes
- Confident working with senior stakeholders
- Practical, delivery-focused approach
- Ability to help design and shape a future finance function
