Freelance Systems Engineer Opportunity – Defence & Naval Technology
We’re recruiting multiple Freelance Systems Engineers to support one of Europe’s most advanced submarine combat systems programmes based in Bremen, Germany.
This is an exciting opportunity to join a highly skilled engineering team developing next-generation combat management systems, working across complex systems integration, software, hardware, communications and sensor technologies that support critical underwater defence capabilities.
Whether your background is in Defence, Naval, Aerospace or other complex safety-critical engineering environments, this contract offers the opportunity to contribute to a high-profile programme with long-term potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and enhance advanced submarine combat system capabilities.
- Translate system requirements into practical engineering solutions.
- Define and develop system architectures, interfaces and technical specifications.
- Manage system integration activities across multiple subsystems.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to resolve complex technical challenges.
- Support subsystem selection, integration, testing and delivery.
- Participate in hardware, software, communications and sensor integration.
- Support verification, validation (V&V), qualification and acceptance activities.
- Perform technical investigations, root cause analysis and problem resolution.
- Assist with system commissioning and customer acceptance testing.
- Produce and maintain high-quality engineering documentation throughout the project lifecycle.
Requirements
- Degree in Systems Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or a related engineering discipline.
- Proven experience as a Systems Engineer, Systems Integration Engineer or within complex engineering programmes.
- Previous experience within Defence, Naval, Maritime, Military or Aerospace environments.
- Strong understanding of the systems engineering lifecycle, requirements management and systems integration.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Fluent English.
- EU passport holder and eligible to undergo security clearance.
