We are supporting a leading defence client in Germany on a major naval programme, specifically the F123 frigate class. They are looking for a freelance System-Level Test Manager to join on a time-and-materials contract. This role will play a critical part in sea acceptance testing, ensuring the integration and performance of advanced naval combat systems.
The ideal candidate will bring a defence or maritime background, proven experience in system-level test management, and the ability to work hands-on in demanding naval environments. As this project is based in Germany, fluent German is essential alongside strong English communication skills.
Your responsibilities:
- Responsibility for planning, coordinating, and executing system tests for naval systems (combat management systems, weapon systems, sensors, etc.)
- Developing and implementing test strategies and concepts throughout the entire system development cycle (verification and validation)
- Creation of test plans, test cases, test procedures, and test documentation in accordance with military standards (e.g., MIL-STD, NATO STANAGs)
- Coordination and execution of integration and acceptance tests at the system and subsystem level (e.g., in laboratory environments, on land, or on board naval vessels)
- Close cooperation with system engineers, software developers, quality management, and customer representatives
- Control and monitoring of external test teams and service providers
- Analysis and evaluation of test results and tracking of deviations and errors
Your profile:
- Degree in electrical engineering, computer science, systems engineering, communications engineering, or comparable qualification
- Several years of experience in test management of complex technical systems, ideally in a maritime or defense environment
- Knowledge of test methods, tools, and processes
- Familiarity with military standards and specifications is an advantage
- High level of communication and coordination skills
- Good written and spoken German and English
- Willingness to travel occasionally and work on board naval vessels
