We are seeking an experienced Food Safety Officer to join a busy local authority team in Surrey on an initial 3‑month interim basis (highly likely to extend). The role will focus on the delivery of statutory food safety functions, including the full end‑to‑end inspection process of food premises across the district.
This is a hands‑on, operational role requiring regular site visits and direct engagement with food business operators. There may also be involvement in related health and safety work, although this is desirable rather than essential.
Key Responsibilities
- Carrying out routine and reactive food safety inspections across a range of premises
- Undertaking the full inspection process, including risk assessment, compliance checks, reporting, and follow‑up actions
- Providing advice and guidance to food business operators to improve compliance
- Taking appropriate enforcement action where necessary, in line with legislation and council policy
- Investigating food complaints and food poisoning notifications
- Maintaining accurate and timely records using council IT systems
- Supporting wider Environmental Health or Regulatory Services workstreams where required, including some health and safety activity (desirable but not essential)
