A client of mine in the West Midlands are recruiting a Food Safety Officer/Environmental Health Officer to join its Food Safety Team, to support performance targets and help reduce outstanding food hygiene inspection backlogs.
Key Responsibilities
- Carry out food hygiene and food safety inspections across the authority area.
- Support backlog reduction and meet Food Standards Agency (FSA) requirements.
- Complete enforcement actions, follow‑ups, and maintain accurate records.
- Use internal council systems (training provided).
- Work flexibly within a hybrid model, including at least one office day per week.
- Contribute to service improvements and wider regulatory projects.
Essential Requirements
- A competent food qualification that meets FSA requirements for conducting inspections.
- Ability to carry out inspections independently.
- Meets or is close to meeting the FSA Competency Framework.
- Strong enforcement and regulatory decision‑making skills.
- Basic IT skills and willingness to learn new systems.
