Contract: Interim
About the role
Our client is looking for a Fire Risk Assessor to join its team in Bristol on an interim basis. The role centres on assessing fire safety in a range of buildings and will suit someone who can pick up a live programme of work and deliver it accurately and on time.
The successful candidate will carry out fire risk assessments and produce clear, well-evidenced reports that set out findings and prioritised actions. The work involves inspecting premises, reviewing existing fire safety arrangements and identifying hazards, and judging how well the measures in place protect the people who use each building.
The Fire Risk Assessor will work with clients, site teams and colleagues, so the ability to explain findings clearly and give practical, proportionate advice is central to the role. Sound knowledge of fire safety legislation and careful, consistent reporting will matter as much as technical know-how.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out fire risk assessments on a range of premises in line with current legislation and guidance
- Inspect buildings and review fire safety measures, including means of escape, fire detection and alarm systems, emergency lighting, compartmentation and firefighting equipment
- Identify hazards and assess risk to occupants, visitors and other people affected
- Produce clear, accurate reports with prioritised recommendations and realistic timescales
- Review existing fire safety documentation, including emergency plans, testing records and maintenance logs
- Advise clients and site teams on fire safety compliance and practical improvements
- Follow up on actions and carry out review assessments where required
- Keep assessment records and client information accurate and up to date
- Work with colleagues across the business to deliver assessments on time and to the required standard
Requirements
- Experience carrying out fire risk assessments on a range of building types
- Working knowledge of the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and related guidance
- Understanding of fire safety systems, passive fire protection and means of escape
- Relevant fire risk assessment qualification or equivalent experience, to be confirmed with the client
- Strong report writing skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and consistently
- Good communication skills and the ability to advise clients and site teams with confidence
- Able to manage a varied workload to deadlines and work independently
- Comfortable travelling to sites, with a full driving licence (to be confirmed with the client)
- Able to start at short notice and contribute from the outset
