Freelance Finance Controller / Year-End Close Accountant
Location: Belgium (Hybrid/Flexible)
Contract: Freelance Contract (Part-Time)
Duration: 4 Months (Start: September 2026)
Work Schedule: 2 Days per Week

About the Assignment
We are looking for an experienced Finance Controller / Year-End Close Accountant to support a client’s finance team during a critical reporting period. This is a part-time freelance assignment (2 days per week) with a primary focus on the preparation, coordination, and successful execution of the annual financial closing process.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on finance professional with strong accounting expertise and proven experience managing year-end closings independently, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and timely reporting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate the year-end close process from start to finish.
- Prepare and review statutory accounts and annual financial statements.
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts and investigate discrepancies.
- Ensure all accounting entries, accruals, and provisions are correctly recorded.
- Coordinate with external auditors and support audit requests.
- Perform month-end closing activities where required.
- Review general ledger transactions and maintain accounting accuracy.
- Support cash flow reporting and financial analysis.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen financial controls and reporting efficiency.
- Collaborate with finance teams and key internal stakeholders.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, financial control, or financial reporting.
- Proven experience managing year-end closing activities independently.
- Strong knowledge of Belgian accounting standards and financial reporting requirements.
- Experience working with ERP systems and advanced Excel.
- Ability to work autonomously in a freelance project environment.
- Strong analytical skills, accuracy, and attention to detail.
- Prior experience working with external auditors is highly desirable.
