About the role
Our client is a law firm based in Bedfordshire, looking to appoint a Family Solicitor on a locum basis for a 12 month assignment. The role offers a longer-term commitment than most locum work, giving the successful candidate time to settle into the team and make a real contribution to the department.
The successful candidate will take conduct of a varied family law caseload, advising clients through some of the most sensitive moments of their lives. Matters are likely to include divorce and financial remedies, matters involving children, and related applications, with the expectation that files are managed to a high standard from first instruction through to conclusion.
This suits an experienced family solicitor who is comfortable working with a high degree of independence and building rapport with clients quickly. You will work within an established team that values clear communication, sound legal judgement and a practical approach to resolving disputes.
Main responsibilities
- Manage a caseload of family law matters from instruction through to conclusion
- Advise clients on divorce, separation, financial remedies and arrangements for children
- Prepare and issue court applications, statements and supporting documents
- Attend court hearings, mediations and negotiations as required
- Draft and negotiate consent orders, financial agreements and correspondence
- Liaise with clients, opposing parties, counsel and the court to keep matters moving
- Maintain accurate, up-to-date records and manage time recording and billing
- Work in line with regulatory, compliance and client care requirements
Requirements
- Qualified solicitor admitted in England and Wales
- Experience handling a family law caseload
- A good working knowledge of family law procedure and practice
- Experience of advocacy and attending hearings
- Strong client care skills, with a sensitive and pragmatic approach
- Strong organisation and time management across a busy caseload
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Availability for a 12 month assignment
