Environmental Protection Officer (Contract)
Location: Derbyshire (office-based)
Hours: Approx. 15 hours per week (flexible working days)
Start Date: Mid-June to early July
We are currently recruiting for an experienced Environmental Protection Officer to join a Local Authority on a part-time contract basis. This is a great opportunity for a capable professional seeking flexible working arrangements while contributing to key public health and environmental protection services.
Key Responsibilities:
– Investigate statutory nuisance complaints and take appropriate enforcement action where required
– Manage a range of public health issues, including waste accumulations and filthy/verminous properties
– Provide expert advice on licensing applications
– Conduct pest and rodent investigations, including work under the Prevention of Damage by Pests Act 1949
– Utilise enforcement tools such as Community Protection Warnings (CPWs) and Community Protection Notices (CPNs)
Essential Experience:
– Proven experience in a Local Authority Environmental Protection/Health role
– Strong background in statutory nuisance investigations and enforcement
– Experience dealing with public health concerns, including environmental health hazards – Knowledge and practical application of CPWs and CPNs
– Experience in pest control investigations and relevant legislation
– Ability to manage caseloads independently and make sound enforcement decisions
