About the role
Our client, a project services organisation, needs an Electrical Engineer on a contract basis in Albany, New York. You’ll support the electrical side of engineering projects, from design and calculations through to documentation, coordination and support during construction or installation.
You’ll develop and review electrical designs, prepare calculations and drawings, and make sure the work meets project requirements, applicable codes and client standards. You’ll work closely with project managers, other engineering disciplines, contractors and vendors, so you’ll need to communicate technical detail clearly and keep electrical deliverables aligned with the wider project schedule.
The role suits an engineer with sound technical judgement who is comfortable taking responsibility for their own work in a project environment. It’s based in Albany, the capital of New York State. Start date, duration and working pattern will be confirmed with candidates.
Main responsibilities
- Develop electrical designs, including power distribution, lighting, grounding and control systems as required by each project
- Prepare and check electrical calculations, such as load, cable sizing, voltage drop and short circuit studies
- Produce and review drawings, single-line diagrams, schedules and specifications
- Make sure designs comply with applicable codes, standards and client requirements
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, structural and other disciplines to resolve interface issues
- Review vendor and contractor submittals, technical documentation and equipment data
- Support procurement with technical input on electrical equipment
- Provide technical support during construction, installation, testing and commissioning
- Respond to technical queries and help resolve electrical issues on site
Requirements
Essential
- Degree in electrical engineering or a closely related discipline
- Experience as an Electrical Engineer in a design or project environment
- Good working knowledge of electrical calculations, power distribution and system design
- Familiarity with applicable US electrical codes and standards, such as the NEC
- Able to produce and interpret electrical drawings and single-line diagrams
- Good communication skills and comfortable working across disciplines
- Able to work from Albany, New York
Desirable
- Professional Engineer (PE) licence or progress towards one
- Experience with AutoCAD or similar electrical design software
- Experience with power system analysis software
- Experience supporting construction, installation or commissioning activities
- Experience on industrial, energy, infrastructure or commercial projects
