Director – Town Planning

Salary: £70,000 – £90,000 + Bonus + Benefits

The Opportunity
I’m working with an established and highly regarded planning, design and environmental consultancy that is looking to appoint a Director – Town Planning to join its Birmingham team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced planning professional to take a senior leadership position within a collaborative, multidisciplinary business working across some of the UK’s most challenging and exciting development projects.
The business has a strong track record across strategic land, new communities, residential, regeneration, commercial development and complex planning projects, working closely with clients to develop planning strategies and deliver successful outcomes.
The Role
As Director, you will play a key role in the continued growth of the Birmingham planning team and will have responsibility for:
Leading complex and high-profile planning projects from inception through to delivery.
Providing strategic planning advice to landowners, developers, investors and public-sector clients.
Developing and maintaining strong senior-level client relationships.
Leading planning applications, appeals, local plan representations and strategic planning projects.
Advising clients on land promotion, development potential, planning strategy and deliverability.
Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams across planning, urban design, architecture, landscape, environmental planning, heritage and viability.
Identifying and securing new business opportunities.
Taking an active role in developing the Birmingham office and wider Midlands client base.
Providing leadership, mentoring and professional development to planning colleagues.
Representing the business at client meetings, stakeholder discussions, planning committees and industry events.
Contributing to the wider strategic direction and growth of the planning business.
The Projects
You will work across a varied portfolio of major development projects, with opportunities across areas including:
Strategic land and land promotion
New communities and urban extensions
Residential development
Regeneration
Mixed-use development
Commercial projects
Planning strategy and development management
Appeals and complex planning matters
The role will particularly suit someone who enjoys working on large-scale, complex projects and wants to operate at a senior level with significant client exposure.
About You
We are looking for an experienced planning professional who can demonstrate:
Significant private-sector planning consultancy experience.
MRTPI qualification.
Strong technical knowledge of the UK planning system.
Experience leading complex planning projects and providing strategic advice.
A strong understanding of development and commercial considerations.
Proven experience managing and developing client relationships.
A track record of winning work and/or contributing to business development.
Leadership or management experience within a planning team.
Excellent communication, negotiation and presentation skills.
The confidence to operate at Director level with clients and senior stakeholders.
A commercially minded approach and genuine ambition to help grow a successful team.
