Controlling Energy Marshal
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Controlling Energy Marshal (CEM) to support the safe delivery of mission-critical data centre construction and commissioning projects. This role is responsible for overseeing hazardous energy isolation activities, ensuring robust safety standards, compliance, and coordination between construction, commissioning, operational, and safety teams.
As a key stakeholder across the project lifecycle, you will provide assurance, guidance, and oversight of energy isolation programmes, helping to safeguard personnel, critical infrastructure, and operational continuity.

Key Responsibilities
Energy Isolation Oversight
- Monitor and assure compliance with approved energy isolation procedures and programmes.
- Verify contractor adherence to site safety requirements, hazardous energy control processes, and industry best practice.
- Conduct reviews of isolation strategies and associated risk controls.
- Support implementation of Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and Permit-to-Work (PTW) processes.
Planning & Coordination
- Coordinate complex energy isolation activities across multiple workstreams.
- Support scheduling and execution of isolation activities during construction and commissioning phases.
- Work closely with project teams to minimise disruption to live operational environments.
- Assist with planning and delivery of high-risk activities.
Stakeholder Management
- Act as the interface between construction teams, commissioning managers, operations personnel, and safety representatives.
- Facilitate communication and coordination between all project stakeholders.
- Provide technical guidance on energy isolation and hazardous energy management.
Compliance & Auditing
- Conduct site inspections, audits, and assurance reviews.
- Review contractor compliance against project procedures and industry standards.
- Identify non-conformances and support corrective actions.
- Produce compliance reports and recommendations.
Commissioning Support
- Collaborate with commissioning teams to ensure safe energisation and de-energisation activities.
- Ensure construction, commissioning, and operational requirements are effectively aligned.
- Support project readiness and transition activities.
Incident Management
- Assist in the management and investigation of energy-related incidents and non-standard events.
- Support root cause analysis activities and lessons learned reviews.
- Provide recommendations for continuous improvement and risk reduction.
