About the role
Our client, a building and technical systems contractor, is looking for an experienced Construction Manager to lead on-site delivery across electrical, mechanical and civil works on a contract basis. The role is responsible for making sure construction activity is planned, coordinated and completed safely, on time and to the required quality.
You will manage the site programme and the interfaces between the different trades, working with subcontractors, designers, engineers and the client’s representatives. This includes monitoring progress against plan, resolving issues as they arise on site and keeping project stakeholders informed with clear, accurate reporting.
The role suits a construction professional who is comfortable working across disciplines and can take ownership of a live site quickly. Strong coordination, sound technical judgement and a firm commitment to health and safety will be important, as will the ability to keep different trades working together as the project moves through installation, testing and handover.
Main responsibilities
- Lead and coordinate on-site construction activity across electrical, mechanical and civil works
- Manage the construction programme and monitor progress against plan, reporting any delays and recovery actions
- Coordinate subcontractors and site teams, and manage the interfaces between disciplines
- Oversee the quality of workmanship and make sure work meets drawings, specifications and relevant standards
- Promote and enforce high standards of health, safety and environmental performance on site
- Review technical documents, drawings and method statements, and raise queries with design and engineering teams
- Support cost control, including tracking progress, variations and quantities
- Oversee inspection, testing and commissioning activities, and support project handover
- Manage site meetings, daily and weekly reporting and project documentation
- Act as a point of contact for the client, consultants and other project stakeholders
Requirements
Essential
- Proven experience as a Construction Manager or Site Manager on technical building or plant projects
- Working knowledge of construction works across electrical, mechanical and civil disciplines
- Experience coordinating subcontractors and multiple trades on site
- Ability to manage programme, quality and site safety on a live project
- Sound understanding of health and safety requirements in construction
- Strong communication, coordination and leadership skills
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Desirable
- A relevant technical or engineering qualification, or equivalent practical experience
- Experience of building services or industrial plant installation projects
- Experience supporting commissioning and handover
- Working knowledge of German
