About the role
Our client, an engineering firm, is looking for a Civil Engineer with strong experience in road design to join their team in Luxembourg on a contract basis. The role centres on road design work carried out in line with German standards and regulations, supporting the delivery of infrastructure projects from concept through to detailed design.
You will take responsibility for road design packages, producing alignments, cross-sections and supporting documentation, and making sure designs comply with the relevant German guidelines. The position suits an engineer who is comfortable working independently, coordinating with other disciplines and explaining design decisions clearly to project teams and clients.
The successful candidate will bring in-depth knowledge of German road design practice, sound technical judgement and an eye for detail. This is a hands-on assignment where your experience will be put to work from the outset.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out road design work in line with German road design guidelines and regulations
- Prepare horizontal and vertical alignments, cross-sections, junction layouts and related design drawings
- Produce design reports, calculations and supporting technical documentation
- Check designs for compliance with applicable standards, safety requirements and project specifications
- Coordinate with other disciplines, including drainage, structures, traffic and utilities
- Contribute to design reviews and respond to technical queries from clients and authorities
- Support the preparation of tender documents, quantities and technical specifications
- Review and check the work of colleagues, and contribute to quality assurance
- Maintain accurate records and meet project deadlines and quality standards
Requirements
- A degree or equivalent qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline
- Relevant experience in road design within a consultancy or comparable environment
- Sound working knowledge of German road design standards and regulations
- Experience with civil engineering design software used for road and highway design
- Experience coordinating design work with other disciplines and project stakeholders
- Strong analytical, drafting and technical report writing skills
- Good communication skills, with the confidence to engage with clients, colleagues and authorities
- The ability to work in Luxembourg
