BMS / Smart Battery Pack Engineer

Role Overview

We are looking for a hands-on BMS Engineer to provide temporary support for the development and improvement of functionality for one of our Smart Battery Pack products.

The role focuses on the interaction between our MCU and one or more BMS IC solutions, with a strong emphasis on BMS configuration, debugging, validation, and practical problem solving.

We are looking for someone who can go beyond simply implementing code or following a datasheet. You should understand how a BMS works, why specific settings are required, and how to quickly validate whether the implementation behaves as intended on real hardware.

Key Responsibilities

  • Configure and optimize BMS ICs used within our Smart Battery Pack solutions.
  • Develop, modify, and debug MCU functionality related to BMS communication and control.
  • Analyze and troubleshoot issues involving the MCU, BMS IC, and battery system.
  • Interpret BMS datasheets and application documentation and translate configuration requirements into working implementations.
  • Understand and configure the relevant parameters and settings of the BMS ICs, rather than treating them as “black box” values.
  • Perform practical hardware validation of software and configuration changes.
  • Use measurement equipment such as oscilloscopes and multimeters to quickly verify communication, signals, voltages, currents, and system behavior.
  • Support SOC (State of Charge) estimation and related battery-management functionality.
  • Work independently to identify the root cause of issues and determine appropriate solutions.

Required Experience & Skills

  • Proven hands-on experience with BMS IC solutions, preferably from Texas Instruments (TI) and/or NXP.
  • Experience configuring and working with BMS chips in real battery or battery-pack applications.
  • Good understanding of BMS principles and battery-management concepts, including SOC estimation.
  • Practical embedded/MCU development and debugging experience.
  • Comfortable working with oscilloscopes, multimeters, and other basic laboratory measurement equipment.
  • Ability to quickly test and validate software or configuration changes directly on hardware.
  • Strong ability to read and, more importantly, understand BMS datasheets, reference manuals, and application documentation.
  • Good understanding of what the various BMS configuration parameters actually do and how they affect system behavior.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills.
  • A pragmatic, hands-on mindset with a focus on finding and solving the actual problem.

What We Are Looking For

The ideal candidate is someone who:

  • Doesn’t just read the datasheet — they understand it.
  • Understands the ideology, principles, and practical behavior of a BMS.
  • Can look at a configuration setting and explain why it is needed and what effect changing it will have.
  • Is comfortable moving between firmware, BMS configuration, electronics, and measurements on the bench.
  • Can quickly distinguish between a software/configuration problem and a hardware/system-level issue.
  • Is comfortable working independently and getting to a practical solution without requiring extensive guidance.

Engagement

This is a temporary support role focused on improving and, where necessary, debugging functionality of an existing Smart Battery Pack product.

The position is particularly suited to an experienced BMS / Battery Systems / Embedded Engineer who can contribute hands-on from day one.
