Associate Transport Planner – Development Planning
Overview
We are currently seeking an experienced Associate Transport Planner to join a growing development planning team. This is an excellent opportunity for an ambitious and commercially minded transport planner to take on a leadership role within a collaborative consultancy environment.
The successful candidate will lead on a wide range of development planning projects across sectors including residential, mixed-use, commercial, logistics, education, and retail, while supporting team growth, client development, and project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Leading and managing development planning projects from inception through to completion.
- Preparing and reviewing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and associated technical documents.
- Providing strategic transport planning advice to clients, developers, and stakeholders.
- Managing relationships with local authorities, clients, and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Attending client meetings, public consultations, and planning committees where required.
- Supporting business development activities, including fee proposals and client acquisition.
- Mentoring and managing junior team members and supporting their professional development.
- Reviewing junction modelling outputs and coordinating technical inputs where required.
- Managing project programmes, financial performance, and resource allocation.
- Keeping up to date with planning policy, transport guidance, and industry best practice.
Requirements
- Degree qualified in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Significant experience within transport planning, with a strong focus on development planning.
- Proven experience managing projects and client relationships independently.
- Strong technical understanding of Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, and development planning processes.
- Experience working with local authorities and multidisciplinary teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Commercial awareness and ability to contribute to business development activities.
- Chartered status or working towards chartership is desirable.
Desirable Experience
- Experience managing and mentoring teams.
- Knowledge of junction modelling software such as Junctions 10, LinSig, or VISSIM.
- Experience across residential, mixed-use, logistics, and strategic land projects.
- Existing client relationships or business development exposure.
