The Opportunity
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Town Planner to join a growing and highly regarded planning consultancy in York.
The successful candidate will join an established team working across a diverse portfolio of planning projects throughout Yorkshire and the wider UK. The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced planners and multidisciplinary professionals, with significant exposure to clients, projects and the wider planning process.
This would suit an experienced Town Planner looking to take the next step in their career, take greater ownership of projects and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
The Role
As an Associate Town Planner, you will be responsible for managing and delivering a varied portfolio of planning projects, whilst developing strong relationships with clients and stakeholders.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing planning projects from inception through to determination.
- Preparing and submitting planning applications and associated documentation.
- Providing strategic planning advice to clients across a range of sectors.
- Undertaking planning appraisals and assessing development opportunities.
- Managing projects involving residential, commercial, mixed-use and strategic development.
- Preparing planning statements, supporting documents and appeal submissions.
- Liaising with Local Planning Authorities, consultees, clients and other project stakeholders.
- Attending meetings with clients, planning officers and wider project teams.
- Providing guidance and support to junior members of the team.
- Managing project programmes, deadlines and budgets.
- Supporting business development and identifying opportunities for new work.
- Developing and maintaining strong client relationships.
- Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of the planning team.
About You
The ideal candidate will be an experienced planning professional with strong consultancy experience and a good understanding of the UK planning system.
You will ideally have:
- 10+ years’ experience within Town Planning, preferably gained within a planning consultancy.
- MRTPI qualification or be working towards Chartership.
- Strong knowledge of the UK planning system and development management process.
- Experience managing planning applications and projects independently.
- Experience across residential, commercial, mixed-use or strategic development.
- Strong report-writing and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- The confidence to deal directly with clients and Local Planning Authorities.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior planners.
- Strong organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- A commercially aware approach and an interest in developing new client relationships.
- A relevant degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
