You will work on a varied portfolio of residential, commercial, industrial and mixed-use development projects, supporting senior colleagues while taking increasing responsibility for your own projects and client relationships.

The role offers excellent exposure to the full development planning process, from initial site appraisals and access assessments through to planning applications and discussions with local highway authorities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Undertaking transport and highway appraisals for development sites.

  • Assisting with development access and highway design.

  • Carrying out junction capacity assessments and basic traffic modelling.

  • Using industry-standard software and tools including Junctions, TRICS and TEMPro.

  • Undertaking traffic and parking surveys and analysing transport data.

  • Supporting planning applications and providing transport input to planning submissions.

  • Assisting with feasibility studies and development site appraisals.

  • Liaising with clients, developers, architects, planning consultants and local highway authorities.

  • Attending site visits, client meetings and stakeholder discussions.

  • Preparing technical reports, drawings and supporting documentation.

  • Keeping up to date with relevant transport policy, planning guidance and highway standards.

  • Working closely with senior transport planners and other technical disciplines.

  • Taking increasing responsibility for managing tasks, deadlines and elements of projects.

About You

We are looking for someone who is keen to develop their career within development transport planning and is comfortable working in a client-focused consultancy environment.

Ideally, you will have:

  • A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography or another relevant subject.

  • Around 1–3 years’ experience in transport planning, highways or a related consultancy environment.

  • Experience or a strong understanding of development planning and the UK planning system.

  • Exposure to preparing Transport Assessments, Transport Statements and/or Travel Plans.

  • An understanding of development access, parking and highway design principles.

  • Experience using, or willingness to learn, TRICS, Junctions and TEMPro.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Good analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage competing deadlines.

  • A proactive approach and willingness to learn.

  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a wider team.

Previous consultancy experience is desirable, but applications from strong graduates with relevant placement or project experience will also be considered.

Why Join Us?

This is an opportunity to join a growing Nottingham team where you can develop technically and commercially while gaining exposure to a broad range of development projects.

You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on major residential, commercial and mixed-use developments.

  • Gain experience across the full development planning process.

  • Work directly with experienced transport planners and senior consultants.

  • Develop your technical skills in Transport Assessments, Travel Plans and highway/access assessments.

  • Build relationships with developers, planning consultants and local authorities.

  • Take increasing responsibility for your own projects and clients.

  • Receive structured support and mentoring as you progress.

  • Develop towards Transport Planner, Senior Transport Planner and Principal-level positions.
