About the role
Our client, a consultancy based in London, is looking for an Asbestos Surveyor to join its team on an interim basis. The role centres on identifying and reporting asbestos-containing materials in buildings, and will suit someone who can pick up a live programme of surveys and deliver accurate work on time.
The successful candidate will carry out asbestos surveys across a range of premises, taking samples where required and recording findings in a clear, consistent way. The work involves inspecting buildings, assessing the condition and risk of any materials found and producing reports that clients can use to manage asbestos safely.
The Asbestos Surveyor will work with clients, site teams and colleagues, so the ability to explain findings clearly and give practical, proportionate advice is central to the role. Careful sampling, accurate records and a strong grasp of health and safety requirements will matter as much as technical know-how.
Main responsibilities
- Carry out asbestos surveys on a range of premises in line with current legislation and guidance
- Inspect buildings, identify suspect materials and take samples for laboratory analysis
- Assess the type, condition and location of asbestos-containing materials and the risk they present
- Produce clear, accurate survey reports with findings and practical recommendations
- Maintain accurate site records, including photographs, plans and sample logs
- Follow safe working methods and use appropriate personal protective equipment at all times
- Advise clients and site teams on asbestos management and compliance
- Liaise with laboratories, clients and colleagues to deliver surveys and reports on time
- Keep survey records and client information accurate and up to date
Requirements
- Experience carrying out asbestos surveys on a range of building types
- Working knowledge of the Control of Asbestos Regulations 2012 and HSG264 guidance
- Understanding of sampling methods and laboratory analysis requirements
- Relevant asbestos surveying qualification, such as P402, or equivalent experience, to be confirmed with the client
- Strong report writing skills, with the ability to present findings clearly and consistently
- Good communication skills and the ability to advise clients and site teams with confidence
- Able to manage a varied workload to deadlines and work independently
- Comfortable travelling to sites, with a full driving licence (to be confirmed with the client)
- Able to start at short notice and contribute from the outset
