Job Title: Interim Trading Standards Officer

Duration: 6-Month Contract

Hourly Rate: £50

Location: 2 days on-site, remainder remote

Job Description:

We are seeking a qualified and experienced Trading Standards Officer to join our team on an interim basis for a 6-month contract. This position requires expertise in food safety and weights and measures regulations, ensuring compliance and adherence to statutory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  1. Conduct inspections and audits to ensure compliance with food safety standards and weights and measures regulations.
  2. Investigate complaints and reports regarding violations of trading standards laws, including mislabeling, inaccurate weights, and other consumer protection issues.
  3. Provide guidance and advice to businesses and stakeholders on compliance with trading standards regulations.
  4. Collaborate with regulatory agencies and law enforcement authorities to enforce trading standards laws effectively.
  5. Analyze and interpret complex legislation pertaining to trading standards, providing clear and concise recommendations.
  6. Maintain accurate records of inspections, investigations, and enforcement actions.
  7. Participate in educational outreach programs to raise awareness of trading standards regulations within the community.
  8. Stay updated on changes in trading standards legislation and industry best practices.

Requirements:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., law, business, consumer affairs) preferred.
  2. Proven experience working in a trading standards or regulatory compliance role.
  3. Certified qualifications in food safety and weights and measures.
  4. Strong understanding of trading standards legislation and regulations.
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  6. Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks effectively.
  7. Proficiency in using relevant software and tools for record-keeping and data analysis.
  8. Willingness to travel to on-site locations as required.
