Town Planning Director
I am currently working on behalf of a well-established and highly regarded planning consultancy based in West Yorkshire who are looking to appoint a Director of Town Planning to lead and grow their regional presence.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional (MRTPI) operating at Associate Director / Director level who is looking to take on a strategic leadership role within a dynamic and commercially focused consultancy environment.
The Company
My client is a respected independent planning consultancy with a strong reputation across the North of England. They act for a wide-ranging client base including national housebuilders, land promoters, commercial developers, and institutional investors, delivering strategic planning advice across residential, commercial, and mixed-use developments.
Due to sustained growth and an expanding pipeline of major projects, they are now seeking a Director to lead their office and play a key role in the continued success of the business.
The Role
You will take a leading role in driving the planning function, overseeing major projects, managing key client relationships, and contributing to the strategic direction of the business.
You will be responsible for both project delivery and business development, working closely with senior leadership and leading a team of planners.
Responsibilities will include:
- Leading and overseeing complex planning applications, appeals, and strategic land promotions
- Providing high-level, commercially focused planning advice to clients
- Managing and developing key client relationships
- Identifying and securing new business opportunities, including leading bids and tenders
- Leading, mentoring, and growing a team of planning professionals
- Representing clients at planning committees, hearings, and public inquiries
- Monitoring changes in planning policy and advising on strategic implications
- Collaborating with multidisciplinary teams across major development projects
The Ideal Candidate
- RTPI-accredited degree in Town Planning or related discipline
- MRTPI qualified (essential)
- Significant experience within a consultancy environment
- Proven track record in managing complex planning projects and client relationships
- Strong commercial awareness and business development capability
- Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills
- Experience working within the Yorkshire or wider Northern planning landscape is highly desirable
- Full UK driving licence
Candidates currently operating at Associate Director level looking to step up will also be considered.
