Test Engineer – (Production & Manufacturing)
Location: Enschede
Employment Type:Â Freelance with option for permanent
Environment: Scale-up | Hardware + Embedded Systems | Production & Manufacturing
About the Client
As we scale our manufacturing operations, we are building a world-class engineering team to ensure our products meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and performance. You will be joining at a formative stage, where your ideas can meaningfully shape our testing culture, processes, and capabilities.
Role Overview
As a Test Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and continuously improving testing processes across our EV charging product line. You will work at the intersection of hardware, embedded systems, and manufacturing—ensuring our products are validated at every stage from prototype to mass production.
You will play a key role in establishing scalable, efficient test frameworks as we grow, including automated test systems, embedded firmware testing, and end-of-line (EOL) production testing.
Key Responsibilities
Test Process Development & Scale-Up
- Develop and implement robust testing processes tailored for a fast-moving scale-up manufacturing environment.
- Define standard operating procedures (SOPs) for functional testing, validation, and verification across production stages.
- Build scalable test strategies and documentation to support increasing product volume and new product introduction (NPI).
Hardware & Embedded Systems Testing
- Design and execute tests for embedded firmware, control boards, power modules, communication interfaces, and safety features.
- Develop test scripts and automated test setups for embedded systems, using tools such as Python, C, or hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) platforms.
- Collaborate with firmware, hardware, and electronics engineers to diagnose embedded software/hardware interactions.
Production & Manufacturing Testing
- Develop EOL (End-of-Line) and in-process test procedures for EV chargers, PCB assemblies, and power electronics.
- Specify testing instrumentation and fixtures (oscilloscopes, power analyzers, load banks, CAN tools, etc.).
- Work closely with manufacturing teams to integrate repeatable and efficient testing into the production workflow.
Quality, Reliability & Compliance
- Ensure testing aligns with safety, EMC, and regulatory requirements relevant to EV charging products.
- Analyze test data to identify trends, failure modes, and opportunities for product or process improvement.
- Participate in root cause analyses and continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
Essential
- Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Embedded Systems, or related discipline.
- Experience in hardware or embedded system testing, ideally within power electronics or similar industries.
- Hands-on experience with embedded debugging tools, instrumentation, and automated test equipment.
- Ability to create efficient, repeatable testing processes in a production or manufacturing setting.
- Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive, ownership-driven mindset suited to scale-up environments.
Preferred
- Experience testing EV chargers, power electronics, or high-voltage systems.
- Familiarity with communication protocols such as CAN, Modbus, OCPP, or similar.
- Knowledge of HIL testing, automated test frameworks, or manufacturing test systems.
- Exposure to compliance and certification testing (e.g., CE, UL, EMC, safety standards).
