Strategic Planner

Job Title: Strategic Land Planning Assistant

My client, a well established house builder in Lancashire is looking for someone to support the Strategic Land Team in promoting sites through the planning system to help deliver at least 60% of homes from strategic land. Work with the Senior Strategic Planning Manager on planning strategies, Local Plan engagement, and planning applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in delivering medium-to-long term planning and land strategies.

  • Carry out planning appraisals for new site opportunities.

  • Support planning promotion and preparation of residential/mixed-use planning applications.

  • Monitor Local Plans, 5-Year Housing Land Supply, and Housing Delivery Test metrics.

  • Prepare and coordinate Local Plan representations.

  • Track changes to planning policy and assess potential impacts.

  • Manage planning consultants and related budgets.

  • Build relationships with planning officers, councillors, and community stakeholders.

  • Maintain and update landowner and land bank records.

  • Support the timely transfer and promotion of sites.

  • Advise on Section 106 and CIL implications.

  • Promote best practice and continuous improvement.

  • Share updates from CPD and support RTPI accreditation if applicable.

  • Represent and uphold the Story Homes brand.

  • Comply with all company policies and procedures.

Qualifications & Experience

Essential:

  • RTPI-accredited degree in town planning or related field

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in planning (housebuilding, consultancy, land promotion, or local authority)

  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel

  • Knowledge of planning policy and the development process for major housing schemes

Desirable:

  • RTPI-accredited or working towards it

  • Experience in planning applications, Local Plan promotion, and site appraisals
