They work closely with developers, land promoters, planning consultants, and local authorities to deliver commercially aware, policy-compliant, and deliverable transport solutions.
Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of development-led projects across Birmingham and the Midlands, the consultancy is looking to appoint a Senior Transport Planner to join its expanding team.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced transport planning professional seeking to take on greater responsibility, manage projects, and play a key role in delivering high-quality transport advice within a dynamic consultancy environment.
The Role:
As a Senior Transport Planner, you will play a key role in delivering transport planning inputs across a wide variety of development projects, from early feasibility and site promotion through to planning submission and determination.
You will be responsible for managing your own projects, supporting senior colleagues, and mentoring junior staff, while contributing to the continued growth and success of the Birmingham team.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the preparation of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, Travel Plans, and Environmental Statement chapters.
- Undertake and review junction capacity assessments and traffic modelling (e.g. Junctions 9, LinSig, PICADY/ARCADY).
- Manage and deliver projects, ensuring outputs are completed on time and within budget.
- Provide input into site access strategies, masterplanning, and development layouts.
- Support engagement with clients, stakeholders, and local authorities across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
- Assist in negotiations with planning and highway authorities to support planning applications.
- Mentor and support junior team members, providing technical guidance and review.
- Assist with the preparation of fee proposals and support business development activities.
- Provide input into sustainable transport strategies, including active travel and public transport integration, aligned with local and regional planning policies.
About You:
We are seeking a capable and motivated Senior Transport Planner with:
- A degree in Transport Planning, Civil Engineering, Geography, or a related discipline.
- Typically 4–7 years’ experience in UK development planning (consultancy experience preferred).
- A strong understanding of the UK planning system and transport assessment process.
- Proven experience preparing Transport Assessments and Travel Plans.
- Good technical skills, including experience with junction modelling software such as Junctions 9 and LinSig.
- Experience managing projects and working directly with clients.
- Strong analytical, report writing, and communication skills.
- Experience mentoring or supporting junior staff.
- Chartered or working towards professional accreditation (e.g. CIHT / TPS).
- A proactive, detail-oriented, and solutions-focused approach.
