Job Opportunity: Senior Town Planner
Location: Leeds, West Yorkshire
Position: Senior Town Planner
Salary: £45k–£60k (dependent on experience)


About the Company:

We are working with a highly regarded and progressive planning consultancy based in Leeds, known for delivering expert planning advice on complex residential, mixed-use, and commercial developments across Yorkshire and the wider North of England. With a strong and growing project pipeline, the business is now looking to appoint a Senior Town Planner to strengthen its planning team.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced planning professional to take a leading role on high-profile projects while mentoring junior staff and contributing to the continued growth of the consultancy.


The Role:

As a Senior Town Planner, you will take responsibility for managing planning applications and providing strategic planning advice across a range of development projects. You will work closely with clients, local planning authorities, and multidisciplinary project teams to secure successful planning outcomes.

The role offers a high level of autonomy, client exposure, and the opportunity to influence planning strategy on complex and commercially significant schemes.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage planning applications from site appraisal through to determination and post-consent stages.
  • Provide strategic planning advice to clients on development potential, risk, and planning policy.
  • Prepare and review planning statements, appeals, and supporting documentation.
  • Lead engagement with local planning authorities, statutory consultees, and key stakeholders.
  • Coordinate multidisciplinary project teams including architects, transport planners, and environmental consultants.
  • Mentor and support junior planners within the team.
  • Monitor changes in planning policy and legislation, advising clients and internal teams accordingly.
  • Contribute to business development activities and help maintain strong client relationships.

About You:

We are seeking an experienced planning professional with:

  • A degree in Town Planning or a related discipline.
  • MRTPI (or close to achieving chartership).
  • Strong experience working within the UK planning system, ideally within consultancy or development.
  • Proven ability to manage planning applications for residential and mixed-use developments.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The confidence to manage client relationships and lead projects independently.
  • A proactive, commercially aware, and solutions-focused approach.
