Job Title: Network Security Engineer (Cisco Firepower) – Part-Time Contract
Commitment: 10–20+ hours per week
Duration: 6 months (with potential for extension)

About the Role
We’re seeking a Network Security Engineer with strong hands-on experience in Cisco Firepower to augment a lead engineer at an MSP client of ours. This role involves a mix of proactive maintenance, network analysis, and ongoing optimization of our security infrastructure.
The ideal candidate will be a solid mid-to-senior level engineer – experienced enough to operate independently, yet comfortable taking on both strategic and day-to-day operational tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with the lead engineer on managing and maintaining Cisco Firepower systems.
- Perform proactive maintenance, monitoring, and tuning of Firepower appliances and associated policies.
- Analyze network traffic and security logs to identify anomalies, performance issues, or potential threats.
- Support troubleshooting efforts, incident response, and rule/policy updates.
- Contribute to documentation, process improvements, and configuration best practices.
- Ensure ongoing system reliability, stability, and compliance with security standards.
Qualifications
- 3–6+ years of professional experience in network or security engineering.
- Strong hands-on experience with Cisco Firepower Threat Defense (FTD) and Firepower Management Center (FMC).
- Solid understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, routing, switching, VPNs, etc.).
- Experience with traffic analysis, log review, and performance tuning.
- Comfortable working independently in a flexible, part-time engagement.
- Excellent troubleshooting and communication skills.
Nice to Have
- Cisco certifications such as CCNP Security or CCNA Security.
- Experience with other Cisco security technologies (ASA, ISE, AMP, etc.).
- Familiarity with automation or scripting for network management (Python, REST APIs).
- Background in security monitoring, SIEM tools, or compliance frameworks.
