Overview
A large enterprise healthcare system in Atlanta is seeking a Senior L3 Wireless Network Engineer to support and stabilize a highly complex, mission-critical wireless environment.
This is not a maintenance role. This engagement requires a hands-on, remediation-focused engineer who can quickly assess, diagnose, and optimize wireless performance across a massive enterprise footprint including hospitals, clinical facilities, and administrative sites.
Initial phase requires 5 days onsite to fully understand the environment and current challenges. Hybrid flexibility may be available once stability and familiarity are established.
Environment
Large-scale enterprise wireless deployment (thousands of APs)
Cisco and Juniper (Mist) wireless infrastructure
Hospital and clinical environments (high-density, roaming-sensitive)
Real-time medical device connectivity (VoIP, telemetry, mobile workstations)
High availability and zero tolerance for downtime
Key Responsibilities
Wireless Engineering & Troubleshooting
Provide L3 support for Cisco and Juniper wireless environments
Diagnose and resolve complex roaming issues between access points
Troubleshoot authentication, RF interference, coverage gaps, and client performance
Perform root cause analysis for wireless instability or degradation
Address real-time clinical device connectivity issues
Design & Optimization
Conduct wireless health assessments and remediation planning
Optimize AP placement, channel utilization, and power levels
Improve roaming performance (802.11r/k/v tuning)
Validate and refine controller configurations
Site Survey & Analysis
Use Ekahau for active/passive surveys
Conduct predictive modeling and post-remediation validation
Analyze heat maps and RF spectrum data
Identify co-channel interference and RF design flaws
Documentation & Collaboration
Document findings, remediation plans, and configuration standards
Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and clinical technology teams
Provide recommendations for architectural improvements
Required Experience
7+ years enterprise wireless engineering experience
Deep expertise in:
Cisco Wireless (9800 WLC / AireOS preferred)
Juniper Mist Wireless
Strong knowledge of wireless fundamentals:
RF design principles
Channel planning
Power optimization
802.11 standards
Proven experience troubleshooting roaming issues AP-to-AP
Hands-on experience with Ekahau
Experience performing enterprise wireless remediation projects
Strong understanding of authentication (802.1X, RADIUS, NAC integration)
Preferred Experience
Healthcare or hospital wireless environments
Experience supporting mobile clinical carts and medical IoT devices
CCNP Wireless / CWNP certifications
Mist certifications
Experience in high-density environments
Soft Skills
Strong troubleshooting mindset
Able to operate independently in high-pressure environments
Clear communicator with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
Able to quickly assess a large, complex environment
