Freelance Senior Project Manager (m/f/d) – Electrical Integration in Naval Shipbuilding
Location: Northern Germany (near Bremen)
Onsite: 3 days/week in Bremen, 1 day/week in Hamburg
Contract Type: Freelance (all-inclusive daily rate)

Our client is a leading engineering company working on German naval vessels and defense-related projects. We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Manager to oversee complex electrical integration projects in shipbuilding. This is a freelance role requiring a native German speaker with a German passport, based in Northern Germany. You will play a key role in delivering high-profile projects critical to national defense.
Your Responsibilities
- Coordinate with clients, internal teams, subcontractors, suppliers, and regulatory authorities to ensure timely delivery and compliance with defense and industry standards.
- Lead and mentor project teams, fostering collaboration and high performance.
- Serve as the primary client contact, providing regular updates, clarifying requirements, and managing expectations throughout the project lifecycle.
- Monitor project progress, identify risks, and implement effective mitigation strategies.
- Oversee procurement activities, including supplier selection, contract negotiations, and material sourcing.
- Prepare and present project status reports, financial forecasts, and performance metrics to stakeholders.
Your Profile
- Degree in engineering, economics, or equivalent professional experience in project management.
- Proven track record in managing complex projects, ideally in electrical integration for naval shipbuilding or similar defense-related engineering environments.
- Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to manage multidisciplinary teams and explain technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
- Familiarity with project management methodologies (PMI, Agile, Waterfall) and tools (MS Project, Primavera).
- Project management certification (IPMA-B, PMI, Prince) or equivalent experience.
- Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Willingness to undergo security clearance (including spouse if required) under the German Security Clearance Act for military projects.
- Native German speaker with excellent written and spoken German and English.
- Willingness to travel as needed.
