Location: Walloon Region, Belgium (2–3 days per week onsite, remainder remote)

Our client is a large,Utilities organisation based in the Walloon region, currently strengthening its security posture across cloud and hybrid environments. The organisation places a strong emphasis on information security, identity protection, and proactive threat management, with a focus on Microsoft security solutions and operational excellence.


Role Overview

We are seeking an experienced Freelance Security Engineer to support and enhance the organisation’s security operations. You will play a key role in managing advanced security configurations, responding to complex security incidents, and improving security controls across the Microsoft ecosystem.

Acting as Level 3 Security Support, you will work closely with internal IT teams, security architects, and operations stakeholders to ensure robust protection of identities, endpoints, and data while contributing to continuous improvement of security processes and tooling.


Key Responsibilities

Provide Level 3 support for security-related incidents, investigations, and escalations across the organisation.

Configure, manage, and optimise Microsoft Purview for data governance, data loss prevention (DLP), information protection, and compliance requirements.

Administer and fine-tune Microsoft Defender (EDR) to enhance endpoint protection, detection, and response capabilities.

Design, implement, and maintain Conditional Access policies to secure identities and enforce access controls based on risk, user context, and compliance.

Investigate and respond to advanced security threats, alerts, and incidents, including root cause analysis and remediation.

Collaborate with IT, cloud, and identity teams to strengthen security architecture and align security controls with business needs.

Contribute to the definition, improvement, and documentation of security policies, procedures, and operational playbooks.

Support security audits, risk assessments, and compliance initiatives by providing technical input and evidence where required.

Monitor security posture and recommend improvements to reduce risk and increase resilience.

Participate in continuous improvement initiatives related to security tooling, automation, and best practices.

Provide technical guidance and knowledge transfer to internal teams when needed.

Candidate Requirements

Proven experience as a Security Engineer in enterprise or complex IT environments.

Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Purview, Microsoft Defender (EDR), and Conditional Access.

Experience providing Level 3 security support, including incident response and advanced troubleshooting.

Solid understanding of identity and access management (IAM) concepts and cloud security principles.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a proactive security mindset.

Ability to work autonomously in a freelance setup while collaborating closely with on-site teams.

Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining security topics to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Fluent in French and English (spoken and written).
