About the Client:
Our client is a major public sector institution based in Brussels, playing a key role in national digital infrastructure and cybersecurity resilience. The organisation is preparing for upcoming NIS2 compliance and is seeking an experienced Security Architect to help strengthen its enterprise security architecture and threat response capabilities.
Role Overview:
As a freelance Security Architect, you will be responsible for designing secure IT environments, conducting risk assessments, and ensuring the organisation’s architecture aligns with both international standards (e.g. ISO 27001, NIST, CSF) and evolving EU cybersecurity regulations (NIS2). You will collaborate closely with internal IT, audit, and compliance teams to identify risks, define mitigation strategies, and respond to incidents.
Key Responsibilities:
• Design and maintain secure architecture across infrastructure, applications, and cloud platforms
• Perform security risk assessments and threat modelling
• Align architecture with ISO 27001, NIST, CSF and NIS2 frameworks
• Support internal audits and incident response efforts
• Translate technical risks into actionable security controls
• Collaborate with IT teams on secure system and network design
• Contribute to documentation and internal policy development
Candidate Requirements:
• Minimum 5 years of experience in cybersecurity or IT security architecture
• Strong technical knowledge of infrastructure, networks, and enterprise systems
• Proven experience with ISO 27001, NIST, CSF, and/or NIS2 frameworks
• Skilled in risk assessment, threat analysis, and incident handling
• Previous experience in public sector or regulated environments is a plus
• Knowledge of GRC practices is a bonus, but not essential
• Fluent in Dutch and English (both required)

Rate: Competitive daily rate (depending on experience)
