Private Sector Housing Officer – Berkshire Local Authority
Contract: 6 months (with potential for extension)

A local authority in Berkshire is seeking an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer to provide interim support to their Environmental Health team. This role will focus on improving housing conditions, ensuring compliance with legislation, and protecting the health and well-being of local communities.
Key Responsibilities
Carry out inspections of private rented sector properties, including HMOs, to assess compliance with housing standards
Investigate complaints relating to poor housing conditions, disrepair, overcrowding, and tenant/landlord disputes
Enforce housing legislation, including drafting and serving legal notices where required
Process and monitor HMO licence applications in line with statutory requirements
Support wider housing work, including tackling empty homes and providing advice to landlords and tenants
About You
Proven experience in Private Sector Housing, ideally within a local authority setting
Strong working knowledge of housing legislation, including HHSRS and HMO licensing requirements
Confident managing a varied caseload with minimal supervision
Flexible approach with willingness to work on-site across the district as required
