Principal Planning Officer

Vivid Resourcing are currently working with a local authority in Essex that is seeking to appoint an experienced Principal Planning Officer on a 6-month contract, paying up to £55 per hour. The successful candidate will play a key role in leading on major and complex planning applications, including those with Green Belt considerations, providing high-quality professional advice and ensuring decisions are compliant with national and local planning policy. The role will involve managing a varied caseload with minimal supervision, preparing clear and well-reasoned reports, championing design excellence, and working closely with developers, councillors, and other stakeholders to support effective decision-making. The council is looking for someone who can hit the ground running, demonstrate strong judgement, and contribute positively to service performance and continuous improvement. Recent UK local authority experience at a senior level is essential, along with strong knowledge of planning legislation, development management practices, and experience handling complex applications. The role offers hybrid working, with one day per week in the office, and requires a full UK driving licence to attend site visits and meetings as required.
