Locum Principal Litigation Lawyer – Local Authority
South East / Hybrid
Contract: 3-6 months (initially)
Rate: Competitive (DOE, inside IR35 via umbrella)
Full-time preferred | Hybrid or Remote considered
Vivid Resourcing are working with a respected local authority in the South East currently seeking a Locum Principal Litigation Lawyer to lead on a broad litigation caseload and manage two team members. This is a senior interim role offering a high level of responsibility and autonomy across key areas of public sector litigation.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead on a wide-ranging litigation caseload including:
Civil litigation (e.g. judicial review, contractual disputes)
Housing litigation and disrepair claims
Criminal litigation (e.g. environmental, planning, trading standards)
Licensing law (advice, hearings, and appeals)
Line manage two legal team members, providing supervision, mentoring, and support.
Deliver high-quality legal advice to officers, senior management, and elected members.
Represent the authority in courts, tribunals, and licensing hearings.
Engage effectively with external stakeholders and counsel.
Ideal Candidate:
Qualified Solicitor, Barrister, or Fellow of CILEx with significant litigation experience in a local authority or public sector setting.
Proven track record in managing a busy caseload across civil, housing, criminal, and licensing matters.
Experience supervising or managing legal staff is essential.
Excellent communication, advisory, and organisational skills.
Able to work effectively in a hybrid or fully remote environment.
