Strategic Land Planner – Planning Consultancy | Birmingham
Location: Birmingham (Hybrid working available)
Salary: Competitive, based on experience
Contract: Full-time, permanent

About 
Our consultancy client is a growing, forward-thinking planning consultancy based in the heart of Birmingham, working with developers, land promoters, housebuilders and landowners across the Midlands and beyond. Their team specialises in delivering commercially focused, design-led planning solutions — and we’re now looking to expand our Strategic Land team with a talented Strategic Land Planner.

The Role
As a Strategic Land Planner, you will play a key role in identifying, assessing and promoting long-term development opportunities. You will work across the full strategic land lifecycle — from early-stage site appraisal and evidence gathering through to local plan representation and promotion at examination.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Identifying strategic land opportunities and carrying out detailed planning appraisals

  • Preparing and submitting representations to emerging local plans

  • Supporting site promotion strategies and working with multidisciplinary technical teams

  • Undertaking policy research and market analysis to inform development prospects

  • Preparing evidence for hearings, appeals and examinations

  • Building strong client relationships and supporting business development activity

  • Contributing to team strategy and helping shape our growing Strategic Land offer

About You
You will be an ambitious planner with a strong interest in long-term land promotion and development strategy. We’re open to applicants from both public and private sector backgrounds.

We’re looking for:

  • MRTPI status (or working towards it)

  • Solid understanding of planning policy, land supply, and the plan-making process

  • Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret technical information

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Commercial awareness and the ability to think strategically

  • A proactive, collaborative mindset
