Freelance OT MES Engineer (Medior/Senior) – Manufacturing

Role Overview
For a manufacturing client in the Hasselt region, we are looking for a Freelance OT MES Engineer to support and optimize production systems. You will play a key role in maintaining and improving the interaction between production lines, industrial systems, and the MES environment.
This is a hands-on, autonomous role within a flat team structure, requiring strong communication with stakeholders on the shop floor.
Key Responsibilities
- Support and optimize the MES (Manufacturing Execution System) environment
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues across production lines (5 lines)
- Work closely with production teams to integrate new machines and robots into the system
- Adjust and improve existing scripts (including Python-based scripts)
- Monitor and ensure smooth communication between PLC systems, MES, and network infrastructure
- Perform root cause analysis and act as a problem solver for operational issues
- Engage directly with stakeholders on the shop floor and across teams
Day-to-Day Activities
- Modifying and improving existing scripts and automation tasks
- Supporting ongoing production line adjustments and expansions
- Ensuring proper system integration of new equipment
- Troubleshooting MES-related incidents and connectivity issues
- Interacting with operators, engineers, and IT/OT teams
Required Skills & Experience
- Medior to Senior experience in OT / MES environments
- Strong knowledge of:
- PLC systems
- Networking (industrial environments)
- Troubleshooting & root cause analysis
- Basic to intermediate Python knowledge (ability to adjust scripts, not full development)
- Experience in manufacturing or industrial environments
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
- Ability to work autonomously in a flat organization
Languages
- Dutch: Native (mandatory)
- English: Fluent
