Freelance Network System Engineer
Location: Liège Region, Belgium (3 days per week onsite, remainder remote)

Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Freelance Network System Engineer to support a International project aimed at maximising automation and operational efficiency. You will play a key role in designing, maintaining, and optimising the network and system infrastructure that underpins critical operational, scheduling, equipment, and monitoring systems.
Working closely with IT, operations, software, and integration teams, you will ensure robust connectivity, high availability, performance, and security across complex system landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
Review project and architecture documentation to gain a deep understanding of network, system, and integration dependencies.
Design, configure, and support network and system infrastructure required for automated operational environments.
Collaborate with end-users, IT teams, and vendors to understand requirements and resolve network or system-related issues.
Support software and integration teams by ensuring network readiness for interface development and system connectivity.
Monitor and manage network/system performance, availability, and resilience across environments.
Support resilience and failover testing, requiring a solid understanding of enterprise architectures and critical systems.
Work with monitoring and observability tools (e.g. Dynatrace) to proactively detect and prevent issues.
Contribute to the improvement of monitoring, alerting, and automation for network and system operations.
Support testing activities in collaboration with QA and functional teams to ensure infrastructure meets performance and reliability requirements.
Ensure compliance with agreed technical standards, security policies, and best practices.
Identify improvement opportunities related to network design, middleware connectivity, and infrastructure management.
Register and follow up on defects, participate in triage meetings, and support corrective actions.
Document network configurations, troubleshooting procedures, and recovery processes for operational teams.
Support go-live and post-go-live phases, ensuring stability and a smooth handover to local IT and operations teams.
Work closely with stakeholders across Operations, Scheduling, Equipment, IT, and external vendors to ensure alignment.

Candidate Requirements
Strong experience as a Network Engineer / Network System Engineer in complex IT environments
Solid understanding of networked applications, interfaces, and integration patterns
Experience analysing large volumes of logs and correlating technical events
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and communication skills
Fluent in French (English is a plus)
