Mechanical Project Manager

For an industrial customer in Ghent we are searching for a hands-on Mechanical Project Manager with expertise in process piping systems within the food and beverage industry. This role combines technical engineering knowledge with project leadership, requiring approximately 50% office-based project planning and coordination and 50% on-site project management at customer facilities.

You will be responsible for overseeing projects from initial planning and budgeting through installation, commissioning, and handover, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on schedule, and within budget while meeting the strict hygienic and quality standards required in food and beverage processing environments.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate mechanical and process piping projects from concept through completion.
  • Develop project schedules, milestones, and execution plans.
  • Prepare and manage project budgets, cost tracking, and financial forecasts.
  • Source and procure mechanical components, piping systems, valves, pumps, and associated equipment.
  • Coordinate with engineering, purchasing, and fabrication teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and systems.
  • Review technical drawings, P&IDs, and specifications.
  • Manage project documentation including technical files, risk assessments, and quality records.
  • Communicate project status, progress reports, and risk assessments to internal stakeholders and customers.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, hygiene requirements, and company procedures.
  • Manage mechanical installation activities at customer facilities.
  • Lead and coordinate site teams including installers, subcontractors, and technicians.
  • Ensure correct installation of process piping systems, equipment, and supporting infrastructure.
  • Monitor site progress against the project plan and address technical or logistical issues.
  • Conduct site meetings, toolbox talks, and coordination with customer representatives.
  • Ensure adherence to health, safety, and food-grade hygienic standards.
  • Oversee system testing, commissioning, and validation.
  • Ensure quality standards and documentation are completed prior to project handover.

Profile

  • Project management experience in mechanical/process installation projects.
  • Strong experience with process piping systems in the food & beverage or hygienic processing industry.
  • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, mechanical drawings, and technical specifications.
  • Experience managing site installation teams and subcontractors.
  • Knowledge of stainless-steel hygienic piping systems, pumps, valves, and processing equipment.
  • Experience with project budgeting, purchasing, and supplier coordination.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Willingness to travel regularly to customer sites.
