Job Title: Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Flemish Brabant, Belgium (4 days per week onsite, 1 day remote working).
Project: Design various pill/tablet pressing machines.
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Type: Freelance (12 months+)

About the Client:
Our client is a multinational machine building company with a focus on building machines for the medical and nuclear industries.

Role Overview:
The role is to join a team of 6 Mechanical Design Engineers and be responsible for the mechanical design of pill/tablet pressing machines (you’ll be trained on the specific machines) to design machines in line with Quality processes, design specifications and client specific specifications. Designing efficiently based on cost, quality and production planning. You will also be in charge of doing the admin to order parts for machines, be the point of contact for suppliers for your machines as well as the point of contact for the production team following up the build of your machines in the workshop.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Join a team of 6 mechanical design engineers (2 in India, 4 in Flemish Brabant location) and be responsible for the mechanical design of tablet/pill pressing machines (you will be trained on the specific machines).
  • When an order comes in from a client, build the machine in Creo 3D package (working with Creo version 8, upgrading to Creo version 12 by summer 2026).
  • Ensure the needed administration is done in SAP to launch/order the parts both from internal teams for in-house made parts as well as external suppliers.
  • Ensure you make detailed and thorough designs (the client would prefer you to take your time to get it right, don’t cut corners). Designing in line with quality procedures, design specifications and URS (specific client requirements) to create an optimal machine for the client’s specific requirements.
  • Ensure you design following efficiency principles – designing the best value solution by taking into account cost, quality and planning for production when designing.
  • You should be aware of common production principles when designing, and think about how your design would impact cost and production planning when being made.
  • You will act as the point of contact with supplier of parts for your design in regards to mechanical parts. Once you send your designs to suppliers with the order, they will likely come back with questions and push backs on your design. You will have to come to an agreement with them so the part still fits your design nicely without impacting the rest of the parts.
  • Make needed drawings and bond lists/specifications for the production team to follow. This is a key part at the moment as the client are currently using SAP for this but are developing a PLM system which will be in place by summer 2026 (Creo version 12 compatible) which will make things easier – but you will be responsible for doing your administrative tasks properly and will be part of your role on top of the main tasks (machine design and follow up).
  • Provide information to the documentation department so they can make the documents & Instructions/guidebooks for the machines you design.
  • Be the point of contact for the production teams who are building the machines you design. Giving your presence in the workshop to follow up on the machine production and help out by answering questions, giving advice etc.. to ensure the machines are built according to your design specifications.
  • Be strict, detail-oriented and highly analytical when creating your designs. The client believe it is better to take your time to ensure the design is full proof as opposed to rushing it or cutting corners, as they want the machines to be top quality, but also rushing the design and not being detail oriented can lead to mistakes and a huge impact on the whole organisation if parts need changing, re-ordering, the design needs changing etc…
  • You should aim to contribute to the profitability of the client through efficient mechanical design taking into account cost, quality and planning during your designs.
  • Bring a motivation and detail-oriented mindset for design, but also you will have to be flexible to client specifications or scope of work changes which can happen.

Candidate Requirements:

  • Experience with 3D design using Creo.
  • Experienced in Mechanical Design Engineering for machine building.
  • English speaking.
