Locum Litigation Lawyer – London Borough

Vivid Resourcing are currently working with a London Borough Council who are looking to appoint an experienced Locum Litigation Lawyer to join their legal team.
This is an excellent opportunity for a litigation specialist with strong local authority experience, particularly across housing, homelessness, disrepair and debt recovery matters.
The Role
You will provide specialist legal advice and representation to the Council across a varied litigation caseload, working closely with internal departments and senior stakeholders.
Responsibilities are likely to include:
- Managing a varied caseload of housing and civil litigation matters.
- Advising on homelessness and housing-related disputes, including possession and associated proceedings.
- Handling housing disrepair claims, including complex and contentious matters.
- Managing debt recovery matters, including enforcement and recovery of outstanding Council debts.
- Advising on contentious legal issues and potential claims.
- Conducting litigation from pre-action correspondence through to settlement, hearing or trial.
- Drafting pleadings, witness statements, legal correspondence and other court documentation.
- Representing the Council at court hearings and other relevant proceedings.
- Instructing and managing external counsel where required.
- Working closely with housing, homelessness, revenues and other Council departments.
- Providing clear, pragmatic and commercially focused legal advice.
- Managing your own caseload effectively and meeting court and statutory deadlines.
About You
The successful candidate will ideally have:
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister status, or equivalent relevant experience.
- Strong local authority litigation experience.
- Demonstrable experience dealing with homelessness and housing litigation.
- Strong experience handling housing disrepair claims.
- Experience with debt recovery and enforcement matters.
- Good knowledge of relevant civil procedure and housing legislation.
- Strong advocacy, drafting and case management skills.
- The ability to manage a busy caseload with minimal supervision.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A practical, solutions-focused approach to legal advice.
