Job Description

My Local Authority Client in the North West actively seeks a Licensing Officer to join a committed team responsible for overseeing various licensing functions. The primary objective is to ensure the safety of residents and visitors while supporting businesses and license holders in complying with relevant licensing regulations. This involves a comprehensive approach, encompassing education, guidance, and, when necessary, enforcement.

Due to the front line nature of the role, a flexible working arrangement allows officers to work remotely part of the week. However, regular and frequent office attendance is mandatory, based on service delivery requirements.

As a Licensing Officer, your duties will involve:

  1. Enforcing and investigating a wide range of licensing functions, including alcohol, taxi and private hire vehicles, late-night refreshments, gaming lotteries, charitable collections, and scrap metal dealerships.
  2. Collaborating with the UK Health Security Agency to prevent the spread of infectious diseases.
  3. Applying professional judgement to assigned duties, independently determining and implementing appropriate courses of action.
  4. Providing expert advice on various licensing matters to the public, other organizations, and council departments.
  5. Contributing to the training of student Environmental Health Officers and other staff as needed.
  6. Meeting performance targets outlined in personal Performance and Development plans and maintaining the necessary levels of professional competence.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Essential knowledge and experience of working with the Licensing Act 2003.
  • Desirable qualification: PLPQ (Personal License to Practice Qualification).
