Licensing Enforcement Officer – Kent Local Authority

Contract: 6 months (with potential for extension)
Start Date: ASAP

A local authority in Kent is seeking an experienced Licensing Enforcement Officer to provide interim support to their Licensing and Environmental Health team. This role will focus on ensuring licensed activities across the district are compliant with legislation and safeguarding public safety.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out compliance inspections and monitoring of licensed premises, vehicles, and activities (alcohol, entertainment, taxis, street trading, animal welfare, etc.)

  • Investigate complaints and alleged breaches of licensing conditions, taking enforcement action where appropriate

  • Conduct interviews, gather evidence, and prepare case files for committee hearings or court proceedings

  • Provide advice and guidance to licence holders, applicants, and the public on licensing requirements

  • Work closely with colleagues, elected members, and partner agencies (e.g. Police, Trading Standards) to support enforcement activity

About You

  • Proven experience in licensing enforcement, ideally within a local authority setting

  • Strong knowledge of relevant legislation (Licensing Act 2003, Gambling Act 2005, taxi/animal welfare licensing, etc.)

  • Confident in investigations, enforcement, and evidence gathering

  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

  • Flexible approach with willingness to work onsite across the district as required
