Freelance Project Engineer Lead
- The Project Engineering Lead is responsible for leading and coaching a team of 8.
The main objective of the team is to deliver and optimize technical processes and machinery for new and existing products — within agreed timelines, budgets, and quality standards. 
- This is a hands-on leadership position requiring both technical insight and strong people management skills. You will be working in a high-pressure, project-driven environment, ensuring that technical solutions are implemented effectively and that your team remains motivated, aligned, and supported.
 
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, coach, and develop the engineering team (Project Engineers and Technical Writers).
 
- Coordinate team activities, set priorities, and monitor internal planning.
 
- Oversee the selection, procurement, management, and continuous improvement of machinery, both automatic and manual.
 
- Ensure proper documentation and procedures (URS, FAT, SAT) are followed.
 
- Support the Project Department in cost calculations, technical layout, and delivery planning.
 
- Maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships.
 
- Report on team and project engineering performance.
 
- Ensure projects meet GMP and safety compliance where applicable.
 
- Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence in technical processes.
 
Requirements
- Educational background: Master’s degree or strong technical qualification in Electromechanics or a related field.
 
- Experience:
 
- Proven team management experience (preferably leading engineers or technical staff).
 
- Strong machinery experience — ideally in setup, delivery, or optimization.
 
- Practical knowledge of industrial automation and mechanical systems.
 
- Skills:
 
- Excellent leadership and coaching abilities.
 
- Capable of maintaining a helicopter view — balancing technical depth with strategic oversight.
 
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
 
- Hands-on and technically confident, while primarily focused on people management.
 
- Proficient in MS Office and project documentation.
 
- Languages: Dutch strongly preferred; English acceptable.
 
Strongly Preferred Experience
- GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) and/or regulated industry background.
 
- Experience in industrial sectors such as Food, Pharma, Packaging, or Chemical.
 
- Prior experience in packaging machinery or process automation environments.
 
- Exposure to high-pressure, client-driven projects where on-time, compliant delivery is essential.
