Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Senior Automation Engineer to support a large‑scale pharmaceutical facility project in Germany. The successful candidate will contribute to the development, review, and delivery of automation systems across multiple project stages. This position involves a blend of office‑based design work and on‑site engineering support, working closely with process, instrumentation, and electrical teams to ensure integrated and efficient project execution.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver automation input across Concept, Basis of Design, and Detailed Design phases.
- Develop control system architecture, functional philosophies, and technical documentation.
- Produce User Requirements, Control Narratives, and relevant system specifications.
- Review vendor documentation and ensure alignment with project standards.
- Coordinate automation deliverables with process, instrumentation, and electrical disciplines.
- Support tender evaluations, technical bid assessments, and cost estimation.
- Participate in Factory Acceptance Testing and provide technical oversight.
- Assist in Commissioning, Qualification, and Validation (CQV) activities.
Requirements (Qualifications / Skills & Experience)
- Degree in Automation, Electrical, Electronic Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years’ experience in automation engineering, ideally within pharmaceutical or regulated industries.
- Demonstrated expertise in process automation, including PLC, SCADA, and DCS platforms.
- Strong documentation, coordination, and technical communication skills.
- Experience collaborating with internal teams, external suppliers, and client representatives.
- Ability to manage workload independently in a dynamic, time‑driven environment.
- Fluent German and conversational English.
Essential (optional)
- Strong understanding of automation lifecycle methodologies.
- Experience with regulated environments and compliance‑driven design.
- Ability to work both on site and remotely depending on project needs.
Desirable (optional)
- Experience with MES or Historian systems.
- Familiarity with Computer System Validation (CSV).
- Knowledge of GAMP, 21 CFR Part 11, ISA‑88, and ISA‑95.
- Previous involvement in EPC/EPCM project environments.
Additional Information
- Contract duration: 12‑month assignment with likelihood of extension.
- Start date: March 2nd.
- Full‑time freelance engagement, with on‑site presence required.
- Candidates must be residents of Germany or hold an EU passport.
