Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced freelance Java & Kafka Engineer to join a long-term project based in Limburg, Netherlands. The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, maintaining, and improving software systems that are critical to transport operations. This is a hybrid role offering 2 days of remote work per week, with a contract length of 2 years+.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in the evolution and maintenance of transport software solutions, ensuring safety, reliability, and compliance with international aviation protocols.
- Design, develop, and implement new software components and features in alignment with the existing architecture.
- Set up, configure, and code Kafka components for data streaming and integration within distributed systems.
- Ensure all software documentation, configurations, and processes are clearly maintained and compliant.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including developers, architects, and business analysts, to deliver scalable and high-performing solutions.
- Contribute to continuous improvement and innovation across the development lifecycle.
Requirements (Qualifications / Skills & Experience)
- Proven experience in a Java Engineer or Kafka Engineer role.
- Strong technical expertise in Java and Kafka development and configuration.
- Solid understanding of software design principles and distributed system architecture.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary and international team environment.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Fluent in English (spoken and written).
Essential
- Hands-on experience developing and maintaining Kafka-based solutions.
- Strong command of Java development in enterprise environments.
- Experience working in hybrid, cross-functional teams.
Desirable
- Experience in the transport or aviation industry.
- Familiarity with containerization and cloud technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes, AWS, or Azure).
